Hot chocolate that goes way beyond Nestle Quick stirred into hot milk. Not judging, just saying. This will warm your toes and your soul 😊
Ingredients
  • 1 (398mL) can full-fat coconut milk
  • 1 cup whole milk, almond, cashew or oat milk
  • 2 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2-3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp each ground cardamom, ginger and nutmeg
  • Pinch sea salt or Himalayan salt
  • Option: 2 Cinnamon stick Cardamom pods, Star anise (to replace ground spices)
Instructions
  1. Whisk together all ingredients in medium pot. Set over medium-high heat. Once mixture begins to heat and bubble around edges, whisk again; bring to gentle boil.
  2. Reduce heat to low and heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally and making sure dark chocolate is melted.
  3. Ladle or pour into mugs. Top with coconut cream or whipped cream and a few chocolate sprinkles, if you like, or enjoy with a piece of chocolate peppermint bark or a favourite holiday cookie 😊
Recipe Notes

Steeping Whole Spices Option: Place 2 cinnamon sticks, 6-8 cracked cardamom pods, and 2 whole star anise into hot chocolate mixture before heating. After heating for final 5 minutes, turn off heat, cover and steep for 10 minutes. Remove whole spices or strain and reheat gently, if necessary, before serving.

Warm Spiced Coconut Mocha: Ladle hot chocolate mixture into mug and pour in shot of espresso or freshly brewed coffee. Top with coconut cream or whipped cream and chopped chocolate covered coffee beans.
