Cheddar Drop Biscuits
These are so easy! Whip them up quickly and bake while you set the table for dinner. Perfect for dunking into soups, chili and stews. A warm biscuit with butter? Um, yes please!
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup whole-wheat flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp sugar
- 3/4 tsp fine sea salt
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/3 cup cold butter cut into cubes
- 1 cup (packed) grated old or smoked cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk any type
-
Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease baking sheet or line with parchment paper.
-
Whisk together flours, baking powder, sugar, salt, garlic powder and thyme in a large mixing bowl.
-
Using pastry blender, two knives, or hands, gently cut and mix butter into flour mixture, until it resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Add cheese and milk to flour mixture, stirring in with a fork until a ragged moist dough forms. Don't overmix.
-
Drop biscuit dough by 1/4 cup (approx.) scoops onto prepared baking sheet. You should get 10-12 biscuits.
-
Bake for 12-14 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 10 minutes before serving.
